🎨 Play Therapy at Tracy Morgan Counseling 🎨

Helping Children Heal, Grow, and Thrive—One Session at a Time

At Tracy Morgan Counseling, we believe that play is a child’s natural language—and that meaningful emotional growth often begins on the floor with blocks, puppets, and imagination.

Play Therapy offers a safe and supportive environment for children to express emotions, process experiences, and learn important skills—all through play. It’s especially effective for children who may not yet have the words to explain how they feel, but who are showing signs of emotional or behavioral distress.

🧠 What is Play Therapy 🧠

Play therapy is a structured, evidence-based form of counseling that uses play to help children explore their feelings, build coping skills, and resolve inner conflicts. Through toys, art, movement, and games, children learn to manage emotions, strengthen relationships, and improve behavior.

✨ What Play Therapy Helps With✨

Play therapy can be beneficial for children facing a wide range of challenges, including:

  • Anxiety, sadness, or mood changes

  • ADHD or difficulty with impulse control

  • Autism spectrum needs (we offer tailored support for children with autism)

  • Emotional regulation and big feelings

  • Family changes (divorce, blended families, grief)

  • Peer conflict or school-related stress

  • Trauma, neglect, or attachment disruptions

🌱 Why Play Works 🌱

Children express their experiences through action, not just words. Play allows them to:

  • Feel safe and in control

  • Try out new skills and problem-solving techniques

  • Learn to express themselves in healthy, age-appropriate ways

  • Strengthen their ability to focus, cooperate, and regulate emotions

👩‍👧 For Parents 👩‍👧

You play a crucial role in your child’s progress. At Tracy Morgan Counseling, we collaborate closely with caregivers to ensure your child is supported both in session and at home. You’ll receive regular updates, insights, and suggestions for reinforcing progress outside of therapy.

🧩 Autism-Informed Approach 🧩

For children with autism, our play therapy sessions are tailored to support sensory needs, social communication, and emotional expression. We meet each child where they are developmentally, creating structure and connection through the power of play.

📅 Ready to Get Started 📅

Appointment Policy for Play Therapy Services

1st Appointment – Parent/Guardian Only
The first session is for the parent or legal guardian only. This allows time to share concerns, background information, and goals for therapy.
Please do not bring your child or any other minor children to this appointment.
If you arrive with an unsupervised minor, the appointment will be rescheduled and a fee will be charged.

2nd Appointment – Parent/Guardian and Child
The second session includes the parent/guardian and the child. This session helps establish trust and comfort for your child.
Please do not bring siblings or other children, as this time is focused on the participating child.
As a reminder, no minor child may wait in the lobby without adult supervision. If this occurs, the appointment will be rescheduled and a fee will be charged.

3rd Appointment – Child Only
The third session is the child’s first individual play therapy session. The therapist will begin working one-on-one with your child.

Important Reminder About Parent Communication

With play therapy, your child may not share much after each session—and that’s okay. Therapy works best when children feel safe to express themselves freely. Your child’s counselor will schedule periodic parent updates to discuss progress and answer questions.

Please complete the parent update form before each of your child’s sessions.
This helps the counselor better understand what your child may be experiencing between visits.

  • If parents do not live together, you are both welcome to fill out separate forms.

  • Forms are located in the lobby or can be emailed directly to your child’s counselor.
